Upholstery Class Update

The Lorraine LeBree team has been taking an upholstery class for the past few weeks.  And, we wanted to share a few pictures with you.  These are the chairs we started with.

We strip them down to their bones, and are in the process of remaking them.  With the help of George, our instructor, we've been learning to retie springs, replace webbing, padding, sew cording, etc.  We are having a blast and learning a lot.  (finished pics to follow in a few more weeks.)

Sewing Class

This weekend, Amy's mom gave us a little sewing workshop.  We had such a great time, and learned a lot.

We're so excited to get started on some projects.  I love these inspired ideas: lining a medicine cabinet (how cool is that), and how about these fabric covered lampshade with matching the stools.  Tres chic!

Felt Pillows

I've been seeing them everywhere, and I think they are so cool.  What a clever way to add some fun to a room.

Living the Dream

I really like Slim Aaron's work.  If you're not familiar, let me give you a very short bio.  Born October 29, 1916 in Manhattan, NY, Slim Aaron's photographed socialites, jet setters and celebrities from the 1950's through the 80's.  I think he was probably the original lifestyle photographer.

Hollywood Regency

Inspired by Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards ceremony,

I thought it would be fun to check out some Hollywood Regency style decor
starting with this divine chinoiserie room!  That little trundle bed is so sweet.
*This must have originated in House Beautiful or some equally fabulous publication,
but I downloaded it from thinkdecor.tumblr.com, so not sure what the original source was.

Hollywood Regency is all about glitz and glamour and luxury.  Made-up of wonderful fabrics, silk lampshades with fringe, chandeliers with crystals, bright lacquered pieces, faux bamboo, velvet drapes, graphic wallpaper and carpets, mirrored furniture & gorgeous mirrored starbursts.

For me, Kelly Wearstler really personifies today's Hollywood Regency style.

Fabric Shopping

This week, I've been busy trying to find fabric for my first upholstery project.  After, much deliberation, I finally selected this pretty linen blend print.  I'm still not sure if I'm going to use it on the entire chair, or buy a contrasting fabric for the back and and cording.  It's tough to know how bold to go with fabric.  I love my selection, but wonder if it needs to be paired with something bolder and more geometric to balance it's pretty softness.

La Oficina

For me, one of the most exciting and wonderful things about starting our own business is getting to create the perfect office and work environment.  To begin with, we're going to use Amy's garage in her brand new house as our base.  I thought we might get inspired by looking at these other fabulous offices.  This one actually happens to be a garage conversion.
Originally, it was featured in Domino Magazine, and I regretfully, have thrown away my entire collection (a sin, I know!), so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered this photo on the Chocolate, Cookies, and Candies blog.

Another of my all time favorite offices featured in Domino, is Drew Barrymore's LA production company--so creative and fun.
