A Life in the Country

Ever since I was a little kid, I've daydreamed about living in the country.  I'd love to live somewhere with an orchard and secluded swimming pool--just like this.

Somewhere with sun drenched rooms and fresh air,

along with the smell of dirt and nature

Hand Painted Upholstery

Suzanne Meyer Pistorius from BlugirlArt hand paints the fabrics on her restored vintage pieces.  In 2008, she was working for Brooks Brothers as a technical designer with a 6 hour commute to Manhattan.  She decided to return to her first love--fabric painting.  Recycling discarded chairs became the foundation of her business.

Mrs. Jones' Valentine's Day Plans

For V Day this year -  Clark just bought me Patrick O'Connell's cookbook, Refined American Cuisine, that I have been pining over for months.  I think I am going to cook him a 4 course dinner as a special treat. We got engaged at the Inn at Little Washington where O'Connell is the owner / executive chef, and he is a master in the culinary world.  I am not sure which recipes I am going to do for V Day, but I am thinking about starting with the Glazed Oysters drunk on Champagne, as raw oysters are one of Clark's favorite foods (I can't partake this year since I am pregnant).   They look divine in the photo!  O'Connell is a self taught chef, so I think there is some hope for me after all!
**Amy and Clark were married March 6, 2010, so this will be their first Valentine's Day as a married couple.

Grandma's Upholstery Tools

As you know, we got together with my mom a few weeks ago for a basic sewing class.  I knew that she had dug up my Grandma's old upholstery tools the last time she was with my Grandfather, but I had no clue what a delight it would be to take a peek at them all!  My mom presented me with this fabulous little vintage suitcase that my Grandma must have kept all of her things in over the years.
We were all surprised to see her tools inside as she had so many familiar pieces, and it seems that she really knew what she was doing!
All I can say is that I am glad that we invested in the pneumatic staple gun rather than the manual one that Grandma used to use.  Those take a ton of elbow grease to get them going!

Lorraine LeBree Atelier

We'll be officially launching the Lorraine LeBree furniture atelier in April.  There is so much we still have to do leading up to the big day, but we can now cross ordering business cards off the list.

It was so cool to discover that the fabric I'm using on my upholstery class chair is the same one used on this lovely chair from Horchow.  If you aren't familiar with Horchow.com, I'd love to introduce you to my new acquaintance.  The Horchow furniture company was started in 1971 as the first luxury catalog-only retailer.  In 1988, they were acquired by Neiman Marcus.   To see more of their beautiful and inspiring collection, visit http://www.horchow.com/.
